What ODA means and why some pincodes cost more.

ODA means out of delivery area. The pincode is outside a partner’s regular delivery area. The lane can still be serviceable. It costs more, because the last mile is not on the usual route.
Serviceable is not the same as regular
A serviceable pincode is one Delhivery can deliver to or pick up from. AtlasShip covers 18,000+ pincodes through that network. Some of those pincodes are ODA. The shipment can still move. On the quote, the ODA surcharge is ₹4 per kg or ₹750, whichever is higher, when the pickup or delivery pincode is outside the regular area.
Either end can trigger it. A city-centre delivery with a pickup in a far pincode is still an ODA lane. Check both pincodes, not only the receiver’s.
Where you should see it
The surcharge belongs on the quote, before the wallet is charged. Check serviceability on the booking form: enter the 6-digit pincode and leave the field, and the lane is checked before you can confirm. If a pincode is not serviceable at all, booking stays disabled. If it is serviceable and ODA, you should see the extra charge with the rate, not as a line that appears after pickup.
If the quote does not match what you expected, stop and re-check the pincodes before you pay. An ODA charge is legitimate when the pincode is outside the regular area. It is not something to discover from a wallet deduction you did not see coming.
What it does not change
ODA does not change packing rules, the waybill, or how you track. The box still needs to match the weight category you booked. Pickup is still typically within 24 to 48 hours, excluding Sundays and public holidays. Tracking statuses are the same: booked, in transit, out for delivery, delivered.
- Confirm both pincodes are serviceable
- Read the quote for an ODA line before you pay
- Budget the surcharge into the price you promised a customer
- Do not book a non-serviceable pincode hoping the hub will sort it out
If you ship to the same remote pincode often, treat the ODA amount as part of that lane’s price, the same way you treat volumetric weight on a bulky carton.
Run the pincodes on the pricing page before you print a label. The ODA note on that quote is the one that will be billed.

Booked the first carton from one login. The quote showed the extra charge before we paid.

Useful when the lane changes. A single carrier contract is still simpler when the route never does.
